Canada

These products must comply with the labeling and composition requirements set forth in division 2 of the Food and Drug Regulations (FDR).

Note: We suggest you review provincial legislation, as it may vary.

Labels must include the following information:

-  Common name:

-  Common names are defined in B.01.001 and required by  B.01.006 of the FDR

-  Company name and address

-  Net quantity in metric units

-  Alcohol content per volume:

- All alcoholic beverages containing 1,1% or more alcohol per volume, must include the alcohol content amount in the product´s alcohol content statement. It must be shown as  "X% alcohol per volume" or abbreviated "alc. X% / vol." [B.02.003]. The periods must follow the abbreviations

-  Country of origin



- Labeling of nutritional information not required for products containing over 0,5% alcohol grade, beverages  which contain added sweeteners must be mentioned in the nutritional information table and comply with  labeling requirements for these artificial sweeteners.

- Allergen labeling is voluntary

- In the province of Quebec the maximum allow copper is 1 mg / L of copper

Japan

Labels must include the following information:

- Product Name and type

- Ingredients and additives (in order of percentage share in content)

- Alcohol percentage content (ethyl alcohol percentage at 15 degrees Centigrade)

- The bottles’ Alcohol content and volume must be expressed in liters or milliliters

- Production and/or import date

- Importer Name and address

- Country or region of origin

- Conservation/storage method

- Mention the word “imported”

- Net weight in metric units only

- Special use, storage or preparation  instructions (as established by the Health, Labor and Social Welfare Ministry)


- Japanese regulations accept up to 1mg/cubic cm, equivalent to 1mg/ml of the alcoholic beverage sample. In terms of the NOM 006 Mexican standard, this is equivalent to a maximum limit of 250 mg/100 ml AA (in a sample at 40% Alc. Vol.), as in the NOM 006 up to 300 mg/ 100 ml AA are allowed; thus, this is still slightly lower than what is allowed by the NOM 006.

Hong Kong - Product name

These labeling requirements are mandatory for alcoholic beverages with an alcohol content below 10% (except for the shelf life requirement). Wines or other beverages with an alcohol content above 10% are also exempt, except for a list of ingredients, which if present, must comply with the norms

Labels can be in English, Chinese or both languages, nevertheless at least the name and list of ingredients must be in both languages.

New Zealand - Name of beverage type (for example, wine, beer and liquors)

- Labels of containers with more than 0,5%  alcohol  volume cannot include the words "not toxic" or similar terms.

- Food products containing alcohol must not be "described in a manner that expressly or implicitly suggests that the product is a sweet or candy without alcohol or a beverage without  alcohol"

European Union

Labels must include the following information:

-   Name under which product is sold

-  Brand or name, cannot be substituted for generic name but can also appear on label

-  Net amount of beverage must be expressed in metric units (for example, one liter, one centiliter, milliliter). From 100 ml  to 2000 ml, only the following nine nominal amounts are allowed:

ml:100 — 200 — 350 — 500 — 700 — 1 000 — 1 500 — 1 750 — 2 000

-  Labeling of beverages containing over  1,2% in alcohol volume must state acquired volume alcohol grade, that is, it must show the words  "alcohol" or the abbreviation "alc", followed by the symbol "% vol."

-  Name or corporate name and address of producer, bottler or importer established in the EU

-    Place of origin or provenance

-  Lot marked on beverages in previous containers with the inscription preceded by the letter "L"

-  Alcoholic beverages,  beer, wine, spirits, are exempt from including nutritional information panels and ingredients list

- With respect to standard NMX-V-049-NORMEX-2004 Alcoholic beverages containing tequila – designation, labeling and specifications, for the European Union, compound terms are forbidden on labels, for example (liqueur with tequila) in accordance with REGULATION (CE) No 110/2008 OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND COUNCIL in sections 1 and 2 of article 10.

- Pre-packaged food products must comply with mandatory harmonized laws on labeling and advertising:

- Data to be shown on containers includes name under which product is sold, possible allergens, minimum shelf life date and storage conditions (http://europa.eu/scadplus/leg/en/lvb/l21090.htm )

- In order to better inform the consumers suffering from food allergies, the EU directives have established guidelines for mandatory labeling of a variety of potentially allergenic substances contained in food products. Spirits are exempt  (see Directives 2007/68/CE, 2005/26/CE and 2000/13/CE)

Specifically for labeled wine:

- If the wine contains more than 10 mg per liter of SO2, the label must state "contains sulfur dioxide" or "contains sulfites"
